Hi,

I purchased a new Windows 8.1 32 Bit single edition. When i tried to install the Operating system, received the below error.

the operating system could not be loaded because a critical system driver is missing.file:

\WindowsSystem32\driver\vsmraid.sys Error Code : 0xc0000221

I restored the BIOS to defaults and still getting the same error.

Mother Board : Intel G23116.303

Please let me know what needs to be done to install OS.

The actual board is DH61WW, you posted the AA number. ;)

- Have you updated to the latest BIOS?
- How much RAM is installed? try decreasing it
- How are you loading the OS, via DVD or over USB?

Intel notes BIOS version 0099 is required for Windows 8.

The missing driver is Related to vsmraid.sys VIA RAID DRIVER FOR X86-32 from VIA Technologies Inc.,Ltd .  Suggest you download a copy and have it on a dvd to install when the OS asks for it.

Machine have 4GB of Memory

Hi,

BIOS version is latest in my machine. Anyway I have installed it again. Now vsmraid.sys is not appearing. Now the error is Winload.exe is missing when checked in AHCI mode and ntoskernal.exe missing when install Windows 8.1 32 Bit in AHCI mode.

Is any settings to be changed in BIOS or DVD rom will be a problem.

As per the forum,

1. Removed the RAM
2. Load BIOS default
3. Cleaned the memory using eraser
